School Orchestra Pit Cover

LMS 4 400We first installed an orchestra pit cover at Lytchett Minster School back in 2003.  When the performing arts block burned down in 2012 it was decided to rebuild it almost exactly as before – so here it is again, the same…but different.

This time, after lengthy discussions, we made some improvements to the structure which reflect the way in which the school likes to use the facility.  Throughout the process we offered full support to the contractor and school, who were closely involved throughout.

As Stuart Clark, former headteacher and project manager, said:

“Thanks for keeping your eye so firmly on the end product and its workability.  It’s so good to work with people like you.”

LMS 1 400LMS 2 400We ended up making bespoke powder-coated aluminium truss frames with solid hardwood tops and wheels on three faces. These enable the deck to glide into position along a laser-levelled track and to form an aesthetically integrated and easily managed orchestra pit cover.

We provided bespoke drop-in ramps to simplify the process of getting the decks into and out of the pit.  We also made special trolleys for wheeling the decks away safely and easily when not in use.

10 years ago… Killer Queen

Top tribute band Killer Queen bought a package Metrodeck Ultra staging to make touring a less painful business.  And, as you can see from KillerQueenTourPage, they’re still going strong.

At the time, front-man Patrick Myers said: “High quality staging is essential for a touring show like Killer Queen. This stuff is the best.”

10 years ago… School Orchestra Pit

Radley College built a new theatre which needed a demountable stage extension/pit infill.

After seeing our work at nearby Abingdon School, Radley’s Bursar, Richard Beauchamp, invited us to propose a solution.

The result was a series of bespoke Metrodeck units which allowed the pit to be used at different levels (below) or raised to the level of the stage to become an extension (above).

As Richard Beauchamp said “There was a good level of communication between you, the school and the contractor which, along with your conscientious work, left us with a high quality installation.”

The New Theatre is still a focal point in the school for the performing arts and also hosts other large-scale events.

10 years ago…Theatro Technis

For more than 50 years Theatro Technis, a Cypriot theatre and arts centre in north London, has promoted Greek, European and international arts to audiences of all ages.

In its community interaction and varied activities it has been doing what many theatres, schools and municipal halls seek to do – to use their space more efficiently and for a wider audience.

In 2005 director George Eugeniou came to see us to discuss how best to re-equip his studio space.  A package of Metrodeck staging and tip-up folding chairs gave him what he wanted: a versatile theatre space, an adaptable conference venue – and all with a distinctly luxurious feel.

10 years on the theatre is as vibrant as ever and the flexible staging/seating package continues to offer the greatest range of opportunities for an effective and impressive presentation.
